Pyeongchang, South Korea, February 15, 2018 – Following the exciting Snow Volleyball Night at the Austria House in PyeongChang, the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) continued to promote their latest sport, using the existing court to organise a family event for the general public to join some of volleyball’s true legends on the snow.

The family event at the Austria House witnessed a number of families join some of the world’s biggest volleyball and beach volleyball stars, including three-time Olympic beach volleyball medallist Emanuel (BRA), two-time Olympic volleyball medallist Vladimir Grbic (SRB), Olympic medallist in beach volleyball, Xue Chen (CHN) as well as two Austrian beach volleyball players and former European Champions, Nikolas Berger and Stefanie Schwaiger. The players led coaching clinics for the general public throughout the first part of the day, meeting with fans and teaching them the basics of snow volleyball.

“Today’s clinics were great – we had a number of families coming to enjoy snow volleyball as they were impressed by yesterday’s exhibition match,” said Emanuel, who won beach volleyball gold at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.

“Snow Volleyball Night was a huge success and the right moment to show our new sport to the world. Today at the clinics we saw some more results of what we have already achieved. Volleyball is a family sport and it is crucial that after showcasing it, we get more and more families engaged with the sport.”

Vladimir Grbic added: “I enjoyed participating in the clinics today. Families, kids, athletes – we all had fun! The atmosphere was amazing and I am very happy that we managed to bring so much attention to snow volleyball here in PyeongChang and around the world. We need to keep the ball rolling now and use the opportunity to engage more people, especially kids, into the sport.”

Following the great appeal of snow volleyball in PyeongChang, the FIVB and CEV decided to keep the court in the Austria House for the complete duration of the XXIII Olympic Winter Games, allowing more people time to come and enjoy the sport, leaving a sport’s legacy.

The aim of snow volleyball is to make the sport of volleyball available to even more people around the world. The FIVB’s mission – shared by the CEV – is to be the world’s number one family sport, and snow volleyball allows people from all backgrounds to take part. Volleyball is now easily accessible all year round, from the summer to the winter, from the beach to the mountains, indoors and outdoors. Any time, any place, anywhere.
