VIETNAM ASKED TO MAKE FURTHER IMPROVEMENTS IN HOSTING ASIAN WOMEN’S U19 CHAMPIONSHIP – Asian Volleyball Confederation

Bangkok. Thailand, March 7, 2018 – AVC Secretary-General Mr Shanrit Wongprasert’s recent venue inspection in Bac Ninh, the main competition venue for the 19th Asian Women’s U19 Volleyball Championship to be held later this year in Vietnam, has turned sour, with further improvements reportedly needed to ensure a smooth organisation of the top-flight competition.

The AVC has approved the Vietnam bid to host the 19th Asian Women’s U19 Volleyball Championship, which is initially due to take place in Hanoi in June. However, Vietnam informed the Asia’s volleyball-governing body that its capital city will be replaced as the host city by Bac Ninh, a city located in the Red River Delta of the northern part of Vietnam and around 30km to the east of the Vietnamese capital.

To make sure they are well-prepared and on the right track for hosting the Championship, Mr Shanrit, a key man with a wealth of working experience in the role of Chairman and Technical Delegate in several major AVC and FIVB competitions, has been invited to officially inspect competition and training venues, athletes and officials’ hotels and other competition criteria set by the AVC between March 4 and 5.

Mr Shanrit expressed his satisfaction over the main competition venue at Bac Ninh City Gym, but said that the second venue at Tu Son Sports University needs air-conditioning installations.

“The Bac Ninh City Gym is quite ready for hosting the Championship despite the fact that minor improvements are necessarily required to ensure the host nation’s complete preparation, while installations of air-conditioners are a must both inside the venue and working areas,” cited Mr Shanrit.

In terms of the training gyms, the AVC Secretary-General said that four gyms have been prepared including two with TeraFlex, a sports flooring which provides levels of comfort and safety suited to all types of sports activities. The remaining two gyms are floored with wood beams.

“Two four-star hotels have been arranged for teams and officials comprising Moung Thanh Luxury Bac Ninh Hotel and Bac Ninh Royal Hotel, but extra beds must be available to make mostly-provided Single Rooms the Twin ones,” he explained.

On competition days, Shanrit said, three daily matches will be live broadcast both in Vietnam and overseas. Coordinations have already been made among SMM, AVC TV Media Partner, and Host Broadcasters.

“To a certain extent, this serves as notification that Vietnam must make immediate improvements to make all organisational functions work better and get things done successfully ahead of the kickoff of the Championship. If they follow up the AVC’s request for further improvements, I’m upbeat that Bac Ninh will host a successful Championship.”

Meanwhile, a total of 16 teams have already confirmed their participation in the SMM 19th Asian LienVietPostBank Women’s U19 Volleyball Championship in Bac Ninh, Vietnam from June 10 to 17.

Powerhouses China will be out to defend their 12th title achieved in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand two years ago. Following a new AVC competition format, the defending and consecutive four-time winners have been drawn in Pool A with Japan, Thailand and hosts Vietnam.

Pool B comprises Korea, Chinese Taipei, Kazakhstan and India, while Iran, Australia, Macao and Hong Kong are in Pool C. Pool D consists of New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan and Malaysia.
