Can Tho, Vietnam, April 23, 2018 – Kazakhs Tatyana Mashkova/Irina Tsimbalova stamped their authority over the 2018 AVC Beach Volleyball Tour Vietnam Can Tho Open following a convincing win over Indonesians Eka Yokebed/Desi Ratnasari in the final showdown on Monday.

It was a successful comeback for Mashkova and Tsimbalova, who lost to Americans
Caitlin Ledoux/Emily Stockman in the final of the recent Pak Bara Beach Satun in Thailand to return with silver medal at the double-gender, one-star World Tour. The Kazakh duo also returned empty-handed from the AVC Beach Volleyball Tour “19th Samila Open” in Songkhla, Thailand last week as they finished joint fifth place.

Kazakhstan 1’s Mashkova/Tsimbalova, who captured gold at the 2014 Asian Beach Games in Phuket, Thailand, did not lose a set to their respective rivals en route the Monday’s final clash.

The Kazakh duo performed brilliantly in their semi-final clash against Japan 1’s Takemi Nishibori/Ayumi Kusano to send the Japanese pairing packing 21-15 21-17 and went on their awesome form to crush Indonesians Yokebed/Desi 21-15 21-13 in the 26-minute showdown.

Yokebed/Desi, also finishing joint fifth place at the recent Samila Open in Songkhla, struggled in the first set against Thailand 1’s Changkham/Kawfong in the Monday morning’s semi-finals. The thrilling set ended 23-21 in favour of Yokebed/Desi. The second set turned out to be a completely one-sided battle as the Indonesians overwhelmed the Thai counterparts 21-7 for a two-set win and a final berth.

However, the final clash proved a tough task for Yokebed/Desi as, despite putting up a good fight against the much stronger rivals, the Indonesians still failed in their attempts of matching the Kazakhs. Mashkova/Tsimbalovan stormed on to win the final match 21-15 21-13 for the gold medal.

In the third-place playoff earlier, Japan 1’s Takemi/Kusano outclassed Thailand 1’s Anchara Changkham/Sirinuch Kawfong 21-14 21-14 in 31 minutes to take home bronze medal.
