Lausanne, Switzerland, April 25, 2018 – The Malaysian island of Langkawi is set to welcome the return of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour in 2018 following last year’s successful staging of the 1-star Malaysia Open.

This year’s edition is scheduled to take place from April 26 to 29 at the world-class beach of Pantai Cenang, with another exciting double gender event over the course of four days.

Indonesia’s Ade Rachmawan and Mohammad Ashfiya top the Langkawi main draw entry list in the men’s tournament, while Paraguay’s Michelle Sharon Valiente Amarilla and Erika Sofia Mongelos Bobadilla lead the women’s main draw competitors.

Martina Bonnerova of the Czech Republic remains as the only podium finisher from last year’s tournament and will return with new partner Teresa Pluharova. Bonnerova finished with a silver medal when she teamed-up with Sarka Nakladalova in 2017 against USA’s Emily Stockman and Kimberly Dicello.

Cuba’s Diaz Gomez Nivaldo Nadir and Sergio Reynaldo Gonzalez Bayard bagged the gold medal in the men’s tournament.

The competition will see a big boost in the number of participants with 32 teams each in the men’s and women’s tournament coming from Asia, Europe, Africa, North America and South America.

The nations represented in the men’s competition include Austria, Canada, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Oman, Poland, Russia, South Africa, Switzerland, Thailand and hosts Malaysia.

Australia, Austria, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Latvia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Paraguay, Poland, Russia, South Africa, Sweden, Chinese Taipei and Thailand will join the hosts in the women’s category.
