Dhaka, Bangladesh, April 22, 2018 – Nepal bounced back after their opening setback to register their first win in on Sunday.
The championship is being held in Bangladesh between April 21 and 27, with six teams vying for the top honour. Hosts Bangladesh joined Nepal and Maldives in Pool A, while Pool B comprised Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan.
The pool round-robin preliminaries kicked off on Saturday, with Bangladesh delighting their home supporters with a comeback 3-1 (24-26 25-18 25-14 28-26 win over Nepal. The host side are due to next take on Maldives on Monday.
Nepal, beaten 1-3 by hosts Bangladesh, revived their fortunes to thrash Maldives in comfortable straight sets 25-21 25-18 25-15 on Sunday, while Turkmenistan struggled hard to beat Kyrgyzstan in a hotly-contested battle 25-23 35-33 28-26.
As Bangladesh will play Maldives on Monday, Turkmenistan will also seek chances of winning their second match against Uzbekistan.
After the end of the pool plays, only top two teams from each pool will advance to the semi-finals, with the two winners setting up a final showdown on Friday and the losers contesting the third-place playoff on the same day.
