Shanghai, China, April 3, 2018 – Tianjin Bohai Bank won their 11th Chinese League title Tuesday evening after bouncing back for a hard-fought 3-2 (21-25, 25-22, 18-25, 25-22, 16-14) away victory over Shanghai Bright Ubest in the tie-breaker of the China Women’s Volleyball League.
Tianjin’s 18-year-old Li Yingying topped the scoring charts with 43 points, setting an incredible record with over 800 points this season. Zeng Chunlei and Korean Kim Yeon-Koung bagged 31 and 22 points for Shanghai respectively.
The host team opened the match strongly for a 25-21 win in the first set. Li Yingying was firing to help Tianjin take the second set 25-22. Both teams were well-matched and the score seesawed all the time. Shanghai took down the third set 25-18, while Tianjin won the fourth set 25-22. At the tie-breaker, Shanghai gave away points on errors and Tianjin sealed this set with a breathtaking 16-14 win.
It is the 11th title of Tianjin since 2003. The team have already captured the crown in two consecutive three years from 2003 to 2005, as well as 2007 to 2009, in addition to 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2016. Shanghai fail to claim the title for the fifth time in ten years and only came within a whisker of winning the title. The last time Shanghai triumphed dates back to 2001 in the China Women’s Volleyball League.
