ELAKIYA POWERS INDIA TO 3-0 WIN OVER KAZAKHSTAN AT PRINCESS CUP

Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, May 14, 2018 – In-form India powered past Kazakhstan 25-15, 25-18, 25-19 to capture their second win at the “Princess Cup” 20th Est Cola South East Asian Women’s U17 Volleyball Championship at the Nakhon Pathom Sports Centre Gymnasium on Monday.

Elakiya M.Muthu became the India’s top scorer with 20 points including 16 kills from 31 attempts and 3 ace serves, while Tiwari Debangshi assisted 11 points. Kristina Strukova and Idaliya Chamchiyeva grabbed 7 points apiece for Kazakhstan.

Spearheaded by hard-hitting Elakiya M.Muthu and Ghosh Disha, India, fresh from beating Singapore 3-0 the previous day, showed their strength and power to clinch the first two sets without much trouble 25-15, 25-18. Kazakhstan tried to make a comeback effort in the third set, but their determination did not pay its dividends. The Kazakhs found the formidable opponents’ tactics and insurmountable defence too difficult to handle. India went on their splendid display to win the set 25-19 and match.

“We are very happy for the victory and I think we are improving day by day,” said India head coach Jangra Ajay. “We just want to keep going and see how far we can go. Kazakhstan are a good team but today they couldn’t play their form. They suffered on poor reception. Against New Zealand in the next match, I don’t think it is going to be an easy match, but we will try our best to beat them.”

India will next play New Zealand on Tuesday, with Kazakhstan taking on Singapore in the Pool B encounters.
