Hassan Farah Amelya and Sim Shu Qi Adeline led Singapore with 9 and 8 points respectively.

Both teams played almost in the same level right from the start, with the game being closely-contested and neither side left far behind, but the taller Indians played much better defensively to gain crucial points for the first two sets win 25-17 25-19.

Singapore tried to make amends in the third set, hoping to bring their form back and win this set, but their attempts were in vain as they committed some easy mistakes. India went on aggressive spikes to capture the set 25-20 and match.

Despite the win, India’s head coach Ajay Jangra was not satisfied with his team’s form. “Of course it was our first game of the tournament and my players didn’t show their best. I hope that they will play better in the next match,” Ajay Jangra commented after the match.

“We trained only two months before coming here, so my expectation is to finish somewhere with good results and in our best form.We will take this tournament as a warm-up match in our final preparation ahead of the next week’s Asian U17 Championship,” he added.

India will next play Kazakhstan, while Singapore will challenge New Zealand in the Pool A preliminary round on Monday.
