Lausanne, Switzerland, May 8, 2018 – FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° visited Saudi Arabia this week to discuss plans for the development of volleyball and beach volleyball with the country’s leading sports officials.

Following the successful FIVB Executive Committee and Board of Administration meetings in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, the FIVB President travelled to Saudi Arabia to meet with HRH Prince Abdulaziz Bin Turki Al-Faisal Al Saud, Vice Chairman of the General Sport Authority and Vice President of the Saudi Arabian NOC, and Dr. Ibrahim Bin Abdulwahab Albabtain, President of the Saudi Arabian Volleyball Federation. President Ary Graça was accompanied by the FIVB Executive Vice-President and AVC President Dr. Saleh Ahmad Bin Nasser.

The delegation discussed the next steps for Saudi Arabian volleyball, growth of the sport and the possibility of future competitions being held in the country. The FIVB will now support the Saudi Arabian Volleyball Federation to put in place a strategic plan, which will come into force over the next five years.

Following the meeting, President Ary Graça said:
“We would like to support the efforts of the Asian Volleyball Confederation and its President, Dr. Saleh Ahmad Bin Nasser, to promote volleyball in Saudi Arabia. We have worked on a strategic plan for the Saudi Arabian Volleyball Federation, with the final objective for the country to be in the top 20 of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Ranking by 2022.

“We are delighted to have held productive talks with the sports authorities of Saudi Arabia and will continue our dialogue further, in order to grow volleyball and beach volleyball in the region.”

The strategic plan discussed at the meeting includes the promotion of volleyball by hosting relevant national teams’ events, improvement of the men’s national team technical level through FIVB coaching and athlete support, and promotion of beach volleyball by hosting a 4-star World Tour event in 2019.
