IRAN SEE OFF MACAO IN LOP-SIDED BATTLE AT ASIAN WOMEN’S U19 CHAMPIONSHIP

Bac Ninh, Vietnam, June 12, 2018 – Iran outclassed pint-sized Macao in a completely one-sided 25-11 25-18 25-12 encounter to end their campaign in the pool round-robin preliminaries with two wins against one loss to Australia at the 19th Asian Women’s U19 Volleyball Championship at the Bac Ninh Gymnasium here on Tuesday.

Aytak Salamat led Iran with 16 points including 10 kills from 21 attempts, while Ho Weng Ka scored 9 points for Macao.

Iran, whose height average is 180cm against the smaller-built rivals’ 167cm, took the height advantage to attack effectively at both wings. Aytak Salamat and Fatemeh  Enayat became dominant forces for the Iran’s comfortable 25-11 win in the first set.

In the second set, Macao briefly led from the start 4-2, but the Iranians fought back to widen the gap 15-11. Macao gathered their courage to counter-attack the Iranians, who gradually became more prone with unforced errors. As the lack lustrous rivals came within a whisker of catching them, Iran foiled their attempts, tearing the Macao’s defence with aggressive spikes which went with no reply. Iran claimed the set 25-18.

The third set was a one-sided affair, which saw the Iranians capture the set without much trouble 25-12 and match.

“It was a good match. Macao are a good team with reception and attacking and they played well in this match against us. I think our system and cooperation among players are not that good. For the next round, we have to improve on reception, service and cooperation in the team,” Iran head coach Vadi Ebrahim commented.
