ASIAN WOMEN’S CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL FOUR FULLY DEFINED
Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan, July 16, 2018 – Japan’s NEC Red Rockets won 3-1 (25-15, 25-18, 19-25, 25-15) against Chinese Taipei’s CMFC on Monday as the last team to enter the Final Four stage at the Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship in Ust-Kamenogorsk’s Boris Alexandrov Sports Palace.
The Japanese club outplayed CMFC in all fields, with 43 attacks, 11 blocks, and seven service winners that threw off their opponents’ defense and passing. While the Chinese Taipei club stole a set and sustained good rallies along the competition, NEC Red Rockets showed better composure with a well-distributed offense.
Earlier, Vietnam’s VTV Binh Dien Long An staged a straight-sets win on Sri Lanka’s Lanka Lions (25-8, 25-19, 25-18) to lodge their position into the 5th-8th place playoffs. Dang Thi Kim Thanh led the Vietnamese club with 12 points (8 attacks, two blocks, two serves). Thilini Perera led all scorers in the field with 13 points for the Lanka Lions.
Indonesia’s Garuda recovered from one set down to win 3-1 against Iran’s Paykan (23-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-18). Aprilia Manganang and captain Amalia Nabila combined for 45 points that steered the Indonesian side’s offense towards victory on Monday afternoon.
The competition continues on Tuesday, July 17. The 5th-8th playoffs will be played by Garuda (INA) against VTV Binh Dien Long An (VIE) at 10:00 local time; followed by CMFC (TPE) vs. Paykan (IRI) at 12:30. Supreme (THA) and Jiangsu Zhongtian Steel (CHN) meet at 15:00 for the first semi-final encounter; with Altay (KAZ) taking on NEC Red Rockets (JPN) for the second semi-final match at 18:00 local.
The winners to be declared after Wednesday’s championship match will represent AVC in the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship.
