AUSTRALIA OVERPOWER KAZAKHSTAN TO FINISH 7TH PLACE AT ASIAN MEN’S U20 CHAMPIONSHIP

Manama, Bahrain, July 28, 2018 – Australia proved an impossible nut to crack for Kazakhstan as they cruised past the Kazakhs in thrilling three-setter 25-22, 25-18, 25-23 to finish 7th at the SMM 19th Asian Men’s U20 Volleyball Championship at Isa Sport City Hall on Saturday

Australia started encouragingly to win the first two sets 25-22, 25-18, thanks to their quick play and an excellent defense led by Ryan Dagg.

Kazakhstan showed improvement in the third set but Australia came out in full force in an effort of winning. The Aussies played more consistently to win it 25-23 and the 7th place at this top-tier competition.

Australia ended their campaign with a 3-3 record (three losses to Sri Lanka, Japan, Korea).

“I am satisfied with the position we made but disappointed not to beat some of those good teams such as China and Korea. If we could have played better, maybe we could make the same result in this game but I expect quality volleyball from my players. We also came to 7th place in the Asian Men’s U19 Championship last year, we maintained that position. Our best ever result is 5th place in 2008, so we want to push for that or better. It is tough for us to see Thailand and Iraq in top fourth. We will manage to make it a better job next time”, said Australia head coach Martin Collins.
