AVC NAMES 11 ACCOMPANYING REFEREES TO OFFICIATE AT ASIAN MEN’S CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP IN MYANMAR


Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, July 30, 2018 – The 2018 Asian Men’s Club Championship is being held from July 30 to August 6 at the Wunna Theikdi Indoor Stadium here and the AVC has already announced a list of 11 referees who are now officiating at the top-tier championship.

This year, a total of 13 teams are competing in the championship, which is traditionally regarded as the Asia’s qualifying tournament for the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship. However, only the top team from the Asian Men’s Club Championship in Nay Pyi Taw will receive the green light from the FIVB and secure their place at the next year’s world meet.

The 13 participating teams are Sichuan (China), Long Power (Chinese Taipei), Naknonratchasima The Mall VC (Thailand), Lanka Lions (Sri Lanka), Sanest Khanh Hoa (Vietnam), Khatam Ardakan (Iran), Toray Arrows (Japan), WAPDA (Pakistan), Binagar (Turkmenistan), Yanchai (Hong Kong), Canberra Heat (Australia), Asia World Club (Myanmar) and Artyrau (Kazakhstan).

Eleven accompanying referees including two women have already started their assignment at the Championship.

Referring to the decision made at the 2016 AVC Board of Administration Meeting, all NFs sending their teams to participate in any Asian Volleyball Championship must each submit three international or candidate referees to the AVC in order that the AVC Referees Committee, chaired by Mr. Songsak Chareonpong, will take into consideration and select the best one to accompany each participating team.

Ahead of the competition, the AVC Referees Committee announced all accompanying referees who are now officiating under the guidance of Referee Delegate Mr Dean Turner and three Referee Sub Committees, Mr Songsak Chareonpong, Mr Kim Kun Tae and Mr Abdulakhaliq Isa Alsabah. The 11 accompanying referees are as follows:

1. Ms Carla Hoorweg from Australia.
2. Mr Fan Gaoxiang from China.
3. Ms Lee Heung Fai Karen from Hong Kong.
4. Mr Mohammad Ghomi Ebrahimzadeh from Iran.
5. Mr Takahashi Hiroaki from Japan.
6. Mr Nurzhan Omirzak from Kazakhstan.
7. Mr Phyo Thu Aung from Myanmar (AVC Candidate).
8. Mr U. Samitha Senarathana from Sri Lanka.
9. Mr Banthom Pimthongkhonburi from Thailand.
10. Mr Liu I Yuan from Chinese Taipei.
11. Mr Tin Nguyen Hong from Vietnam (AVC Candidate).
