CHINA, CHINESE TAIPEI TO BATTLE IT OUT FOR 5TH PLACE
Manama, Bahrain, July 27, 2018 – Determined China did not give Australia any comeback opportunity as they thrashed the taller rivals in straight sets 25-14, 25-19, 25-22 to next contest the 5th-6th playoff against Chinese Taipei in the 19th Asian Men’s U20 Volleyball Championship at Isa Sport City Hall on Friday.
This match was not about individuals as the strong China, spearheaded by Diao Jianfei showed consistency to celebrate their victory.
In the first two sets, China performed better on the receiving side. Aussies fought hard to puncture the Chinese defence, but the opponents came up with solid blocks and aggressive spikes to win both sets.
Australia did everything to come back in the third set but it was China’s excellent teamwork and combinations which held off the rivals’ attempts. China took the set 25-22 and match 3-0.
Martin Collins, Australia’s head coach, was wondering why his players were not able to make the comeback in the third set and said: “In the match against Bahrain, we made a neat comeback. I was waiting for that in our next matches after that but it did not happen. Maybe, we need some more crowds to make them motivated.”
“We are not satisfied with overall results as we had targeted a better place. Still, we did our best in the match against Chinese Taipei”, Hang Li, Australia’s head coach commented.
