CHINA SET UP 5TH-6TH PLAYOFF CLASH WITH THAILAND AFTER 3-1 COMEBACK WIN OVER INDIA


Tabriz, Iran, July 5, 2018 – China, bronze medallists at the last year’s Asian Men’s U19 Championship in Myanmar’s capital city Nay Pyi Taw, produced a magnificent come-from-behind 3-1 (24-26 25-22 25-17 25-20) victory over India to next battle it out with Thailand for the 5th place at the 12th Asian Men’s U18 Volleyball Championship at Poursharifi Gymnasium on Friday.

China fielded the same line-up which struggled to beat India 3-2 in the classification playoffs earlier including powerful Wang Bin, Wang Wenjun and Zhai Haonan.

China opened up aggressively in the first set, playing an impenetrable defence with solid blocks led by Wang Bin and Zheng Yang, both stand the similar 195cm tall. Still. India made a strong comeback led by the attacks of Abhishek Changanam and won the see-saw first set 26-24.

Holding 0-1 disadvantage, China fought hard in the second set with an aim of bringing good things back on track. Their determination and consistent play bore fruits well as they dominated the remaining three sets 25-22 25-17 25-20 for an eventual 3-1 victory.

With the scintillating win, China will next battle it out with Thailand for the fifth place, while India and Australia will face off in the 7th-8th playoff encounter.
