GTM OF 2018 AVC EASTERN ZONE WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP COMPLETED

Zhangjiagang, China, July 9, 2018 – Mr Cai Yi, Chairman of the AVC Eastern Zone and Control Committee, presided over the General Technical Meeting of the 2018 AVC Eastern Zone Women’s Volleyball Championship at Jinling Huafang International Hotel, with coaches and team officials from all eight participating teams in attendance.

Following the welcome speech from Ms. Zhang Lisha, Director of Zhangjiagang Sports Bureau and Secretary General of the Organizing Committee, Technical Delegate Dr Eom Hanjoo informed all participating teams of necessary matters including eligibility of players and officials (team composition), while Referee Delegate Mr Chang Chi Jong reported on the Rules of the Game to be applied, discipline on the court and match protocol. Press Delegate Mr Wang Liang informed the team head coaches about the press interview at the mixed zone and also the team photo before their first match.

Mr. Li Jin, Director of Zhangjiagang Sports Center and Deputy Secretary General of Organizing Committee, introduced the preparation work to the meeting which included the details of meals and accommodation, transportation, venue, medical service, etc. All the teams are satisfied with the arrangement.

Mr. Cai Yi concluded the meeting with thanks to the eight participating teams for their active participation and to the organisers Jiangsu Sports Competition Administrative Center and Zhangjiagang Sports Bureau for their support to AVC Eastern Zone.

After the meeting, the welcome dinner was held, with all players, team officials, Control Committee members and the organisers enjoying their dinner.

The AVC Eastern Zone Women’s Volleyball Championship is a biennial competition of AVC Eastern Zone. It is the second time that Zhangjiagang hosted the championship since 2016. At the last edition, Chinese Taipei came from behind to capture a thrilling 3-1 victory over title-holders defend Japan in the final showdown, while hosts China (Jiangsu women’s club team) finished third place after thrashing Korea 3-0 in the bronze-medal clash.

Zhangjiagang, known as the China’s National Health City, National Eco City and National Civilized City, was recognized as International Garden City by UNEP in 2005 and was awarded the UN Habitat Scroll of Honour in 2008. Besides, Zhangjiagang is a city with volleyball-loving people. Many volleyball events such as the National Volleyball Grand Prix and the International Volleyball Challenge, have been held in Zhangjiagang.
