HOME CROWDS TAKE PRIDE IN BAHRAIN’S 3-1 WIN OVER MALAYSIA
Manama, Bahrain, July 24, 2018 – Hosts Bahrain came from behind to beat Malaysia 3-1 (25-27, 25-20, 25-18, 25-21) in the 19th Asian Men’s U20 Volleyball Championship at Isa Sport City Hall on Tuesday.
The last match of the day made much of the impact as hosts Bahrain forced fighting Malaysia to go into four sets to accept 3-1 loss which delighted the home crowds.
Hard-hitting Mahmood Salman scored a team-high 14 points for Bahrain including 12 kills from 21 attempts. For the losing side, captain Ranjit A/L Ramu emerged as the top scorer of Malaysia with 14 points, eleven of which through his deadly attacks.
“We won but I am still not satisfied with my players’ performance as they simply gave the first set to the opponent as a gift. I need them to remove their mistakes to add to their quality. My players are young but are determined as they were the champions of the Arab countries last year in Jordan,” Bahrain head coach Khalifa Yusus commented.
“My players are very young. I am here mostly with my substituted players as the main ones are now taking part in South Asian School Championship and only two of my key players are with the team. In the first set, they played well but their mistakes on service line caused them to lose concentration and then it got tougher to get back to the match.”
