INDIA OVERPOWER AUSSIES TO FINISH 7th PLACE AT ASIAN MEN’S U18 CHAMPIONSHIP

Tabriz, Iran, July 6, 2018 – India proved an impossible nut to crack for Australia as they cruised past the hefty rivals in hard-fought three-setter 25-22, 25-22, 25-19 to finish 7th place at the SMM 12th Asian Men’s U18 Volleyball Championship at Poursharifi Gymnasium on Friday.

India started encouragingly to win the first two sets with the similar margin 25-22, 25-22, thanks to their quick play and an excellent offensive combination led by Abhishek Changanam and Kumar Rahul.

Both sides came out in full force in an effort of winning the third set, but India played more consistently. Their determination paid its dividends when they won the third set 25-19, and the 7th place at this top-tier competition.

India ended  their campaign with a 5-2 record (two losses to Iran and China in classification playoffs).

“I am disappointed with the result. I think we could have finished a better position. On the other side, the new format is unfair because we beat China but now they are in a better position”, said India head coach Chandaran Jothish.
