IRAQ DELIVER A CRUSHING DEFEAT TO MACAO

Manama, Bahrain, July 24, 2018 – Iraq delivered a crushing loss in straight sets 25-18, 25-19, 25-18 to Macao in the 19th Asian Men’s U20 Volleyball Championship at Isa Sport City Hall on Tuesday.

Ali Sahib Abushanan outperformed all the players in individual scoring skills as he scored a match-high 16 points to topple Iraq’s players. Iraq will next face Turkmenistan on Wednesday in the classification playoff.

“We watched the match of Macao against Malaysia and did a good analysis on it. We changed our arrangement to be able to effectively attack them. We will challenge Turkmenistan in our next match. We will try our best to beat them,” Iraq coach Darweesh Saad Yahya commented.

“My players were rather tired today after the five-set thriller against Malaysia the previous day. Iraq made a quick attack that we could not catch up with them. My middle blocker was also very slow,” Macao coach Pak Tou Chan said after the match.
