KOREA DOWN AUSTRALIA 3-0 TO SECURE SEMI-FINAL BERTH
Manama, Bahrain, July 26, 2018 – Korea demolished Australia with a convincing 25-19, 25-19, 25-18 victory to secure a semi-final berth in the 19th Asian Men’s U20 Volleyball Championship at Isa Sport City Hall on Thursday.
Australia confidently entered the court following their last epic comeback against hosts Bahrain in their previous classification playoff match, while Korea prevailed Pakistan 3-1 to face the Aussies.
Both teams were determined to advance to the semi-finals as they started the match with confidence. Korea took better steps by capitalizing on the service faults of Australia and brushed them off mightily in all three sets.
In this match, Im Donghyeok scored a match-high 18 points for Korea, which will next test their mettle against Iraq in the Friday’s semi-finals. Iraq made much of the impact on Thursday after a stunning 3-2 (17-25 25-22 15-25 25-22 15-10) victory over title-holders China to enter the semi-finals for the first time in history. Iraq’s best performance in this top-tier championship was an eight-place finish in 1984 in Saudi Arabia. The Manama meet is Iraq’s fifth appearance in this championship.
