KOREA SET UP FINAL CLASH WITH OLD FOES IRAN AT ASIAN MEN’S U20 CHAMPIONSHIP
Manama, Bahrain, July 27, 2018 – Korea proved too strong for Iraq to outclass the fast-improving rivals in comfortable straight sets 25-17, 25-16, 25-22 to set up a rematch with Iran in the final round of Asian Men’s U20 Volleyball Championship.
Backed by cheering crowds at the stands inside the Isa Sport City Hall, Korea displayed incredible performance in their crucial match against the Iraqis which they won in straight sets not only to advance to the final of the Manama meet, but also capture the next year’s FIVB Men’s U21 World Championship.
Im Donghyeok was the best scorer of Korea adding 23 points to his rally. Ali Sahib Abushanan scored a match-high 16 points for Iraq mostly on spikes; However, his determined effort alone was not enough to help Iraq win the match.
“Iran are a tough team. We will make our analysis for the match against them. They beat us in the pool preliminaries, but this time it will be different. We are determined enough to take home the Asian title,” Korea coach Kang Sunghyung Kang said.
Earlier, Korea went down 0-3 to Iran in the Pool A preliminaries. The final showdown will give Korea a rematch with Iran, while Thailand face Iraq in the bronze-medal match.
