KUVANDYKOV STEERS TURKMENISTAN TO 3-0 ROUT OF QATAR
Tabriz, Iran, July 1, 2018 – Rasul Kuvandykov guided the juvenile Turkmenistan to a straight-set rout of Qatar in the 12th Asian Men’s U18 Volleyball Championship at Poursharifi Gymnasium on Sunday.
Kuvandykov top-scored with 12 points, including nine blocks, as Turkmenistan won 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 25-14) to rebound from their first loss of the tournament at the hands of Malaysia on Saturday. Turkmenistan had a host of contributors with Tirkishgeldi Berdiyev (12 points) and Geldimyrat Orazov (9 points).
Qatar, which have lost their two preliminary matches, finished last in Pool F with no point.
Turkmenistan started fast with a first set masterclass as they overwhelmed Qatar 25-13 with thunderous spikes, well executed sets and innate cohesion.
After such a lamentable opening, Qatar started the second set looking far more settled as impressive hustling from Ghanim Al-Kuwari and thunderous hitting from Waqas Shaukaturrehman to help Qatar reduce the margin. Still, Turkmenistan proved steadier at the final assault for the hard-fought 25-22 win in the set.
However, it didn’t take long for Turkmenistan to regain the initiative as they quickly restored the lead and finished the third set 25-14.
“We were not strong, but the opponents did act so weak. They were not good at reception and we performed well on our service line. I joined the team three days ago,” Turkmenistan head coach Mansoor Jazideh said. The Iranian has recently joined Turkmenistan and needs some more time to get to know his team.
