LIANG ON FIRE AS MALAYSIA SURVIVE HONG KONG’S STRONG CHALLENGE
Tabriz, Iran, July 2, 2018 – Joseph Liang led Malaysia with a match-high 26 points, proving the difference in his side’s epic 3-2 (27-25, 25-22, 24-26, 24-26, 18-16) victory over spirited Hong Kong at the 12th Asian Men’s U18 Volleyball Championship at Poursharifi Gymnasium on Monday.
Having beaten Turkmenistan and Qatar in straight sets, Malaysia picked up the first two sets against Hong Kong with confidence 27-25 and 25-22. However, Hong Kong kept their slim hope for getting back to the match leading alive by the attacks of Chun Ho Damian Tam (6 points) for a terrific comeback 26-24 win in the third set.
Their confidence boosted following a set win, Hong Kong remained in fine form in the fourth set, which they won the hard-fought set 26-24.
The deciding set was thrilling from start to finish, with Malaysia winning the hotly-contested battle 18-16 for an eventual 3-2 victory.
