MANAMA, HOST CITY OF ASIAN MEN’S U20 CHAMPIONSHIP, FANTASTIC AT NIGHT

Manama, Bahrain, July 19, 2018 – Manama, the modern capital and largest city of the Arabian Gulf island nation of Bahrain, is home to a very diverse population and to Bahrain volleyball. The city is no stranger to hosting several international volleyball tournaments including the 1987 FIVB Men’s U21 World Championship.

Following a significant success in hosting the 2014 Asian Men’s U20 Volleyball Championship, Manama now faces another challenge to become the host city of the 2018 Asian Men’s U20 Championship between July 21 and 28, with 23 teams in total vying for the top honour and two slots to contest the 2019 FIVB Men’s U21 World Championship.

Manama has been the centre of major trade routes since antiquity. Its acclaimed Bahrain National Museum showcases artefacts from the ancient Dilmun civilisation that flourished in the region for millennia. At night, Manama turns a sparkling nighttime city with shimmering lights from dusk till dawn. The Bahrain World Trade Centre, a 240-metre-high, 50-floor, twin tower complex located in Manama is the first skyscraper in the world to integrate wind turbines into its design and becomes a centre of attention, making the city lights at night so fantastic.
