MYANMAR TO HOST SEA MEN’S U20 CHAMPIONSHIP FROM JULY 12-16

Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, July 10, 2018 – Four teams including two host sides will strut their stuff in from July 12 to 16 at the Wunna Theikdi Gymnasium, honing their skills ahead of the upcoming 19th Asian Men’s U20 Championship in Manama, Bahrain between July 21 and 28.

Myanmar A, Thailand, Myanmar B and Malaysia will contest the single round-robin preliminaries, with the top team taking on the fourth place and the second place playing the third position in the cross semi-finals. The two winning teams in the semi-finals will then set up a final showdown, while the two losers will battle it out in the third-place playoff.

As the participating teams stand a chance of gaining experience and exposure before facing tougher tasks at the Asian Men’s U20 meet, host city Nay Pyi Taw can thoroughly check if everything has been put to the right place as the Myanmar’s capital city is also preparing to organise the 2018 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship from July 30 to August 6, 2018.

To ensure a smooth run of the 20th South East Asian Men’s U20 Championship, the South East Asian Volleyball Association, chaired by Mr Somporn Chaibangyang, himself the president of the Thailand Volleyball Association, have nominated Mr Tin Maung Aye from Myanmar as the Technical Delegate and Mr Jirachai Kasemsook from Thailand as the Referee Delegate to help control the tournament.

On Tuesday, Mr Tin Maung Aye and Mr Jirachai jointly conducted the preliminary inquiry to make sure all participating teams understand necessary matters including eligibility of players, team rosters and colour of the jerseys.
