VTV Binh Dien Long An take straight sets against CMFC for seventh place finish

Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan, July 18, 2018 – Vietnam’s VTV Binh Dien Long An completed the competition in 7th place at the SMM 2018 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship after a 3-0 match against Chinese Taipei’s CMFC (25-19, 25-22, 25-16) on Wednesday at the Boris Alexandrov Sports Palace.

Captain Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa bested all scorers with 18 points from 13 attacks, four blocks and a service ace. Tran Thi Thanh Thuy charted 16 additional markers for the winning team.

VTV Binh Dien Long An coach Nguyen Quoc Vu said “This competition was a good experience for our players, especially for our setter. We have learned so many things in this tournament that can make us play better in the future.”

VTV Binh Dien Long An started off with an imposing presence. T.T.T. Thuy and Dang Thi Kim Thanh connected from the flank and the backrow, to make for a spread-out offense. They also performed well at the middle with N.T.N. Hoa’s quick kills. CMFC could not seem to initiate their tempo, and suffered from errors in attack. The Vietnam club established a sizable lead with 23-12 but CMFC picked up six straight points, mostly from opponent errors. VTV Binh Dien Long An later on won the first set at 25-19, with an off-speed attack from Duong Thi Hen.

For the next set, VTV Binh Dien Long An showed good block formation and raced to 6-1 with the help of their well-timed deflections. CMFC slowly worked their way back, with Wei-Hua Wu unleashing from the left side. A service winner from setter Ciao-Ling Chen gave the lead 13-12 lead to the Chinese Taipei side. Teams toiled for each point, keeping a close contest. The Vietnam club firmed up their lead to 21-18 with a backline winner from T.T.T. Thuy. CMFC committed attack errors, which helped carve a 25-22 win for VTV Binh Dien Long An in the second set.

By the third set, CMFC played much more aggressively, enabling Tzu-Ya Chen on attack. They kept within close distance, composing their plays patiently, but later, their opponents reverted to a strong presence at the net. The Vietnam club played with much resolve, racing to 25-16 to complete the third set.
