WU SCORES 25 TO HELP CMFC WIN DECIDER AGAINST PAYKAN

Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan, July 12, 2018 – Chinese Taipei’s CMFC captured a 3-2 win against Iran’s Paykan (24-26, 26-24, 15-25, 25-16, 15-11) in a Group B match at the SMM 2018 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship

Captain Wei-Hua Wu bested all scorers with 25 points. Tzu-Ya Chen added another 17 points during Thursday’s match at the Boris Alexandrov Sports Palace.

WH Wu said “This match was very difficult for us. We have a young team right now, but this win is very important for us so we can learn to play at a higher level.”

In the opening set, WH Wu took charge of scoring from the wing, as CMFC showed a faster pace in delivering their offense. The Chinese Taipei took 8-6 at the first technical time-out. Maedeh Borhani proved be the main attacker for Paykan but Mahsa Kadhkoda helped further with strong service.  The Iran club took the 16-13 lead at the second TTO. A close battle came forth, with CMFC getting a narrow 24-23 lead. Paykan retaliated with three consecutive block points to take the first set at 26-24.

In the next set, Paykan called for stronger plays in their frontline, as this was clearly their advantage. Tahmineh Dargazani, Borhani and Kadhkoda picked up points from attacks and blocks. CMFC kept the contest tight, and gained 16-14 at the second TTO with TY Chen’s attack from the left side. Paykan’s Kadhkoda responded by attacking from the backline. Teams exchanged service aces upon side-out, but WH Wu’s off-speed attack sealed the second set for CMFC at 26-24.

By the third set, Paykan’s offense became more cohesive as they seem to have found better rhythm. They played better defense in transition, even against a traditionally quicker team like the Chinese Taipei side. They enjoyed a 16-11 lead at the second TTO, still with the efforts of Kadhkoda and Borhani. TY Chen and WH Hua tried to rally but CMFC suffered from errors, while Paykan gained from Mahtab Rahmani’s swings to give the Iran club 25-15 in the third set.

In the fourth set, WH Wu snapped a string of swings to help give CMFC a 6-1 run. Paykan built their comeback slowly with Dargazani scoring off blocks quick attacks to help bring them within two points at 13-15. TY Chen, WH Wu and Ya-Hui Chiu worked on every point in attack, as the Chinese Taipei club pulled away with 25-16.

For the final set, WH Wu continued to captain CMFC, as she attacked from the flanks, while Dargazani connected with crucial points by the net to help keep Paykan at pace. The Chinese Taipei club took 8-7 at the change-over with the opponents’ service error, but Paykan quickly overtook to 10-9 with an ace from Rahmani. CMFC called upon Li-Wen Chang from the bench, who delivered crucial swings to gain back the lead and help bring her side to 15-11 in the tie-breaker.

Chinese Taipei’s CMFC will face host team Altay on Friday, July 13, at 19:00 local time.
