FIVB.COM GETS DEDICATED SNOW VOLLEYBALL SECTION AS RULES OF THE GAMES ARE PUBLISHED
Lausanne, Switzerland, December 18, 2018 – The FIVB is pleased to announce the addition of a new, dedicated section for Snow Volleyball to its website, fivb.com, which will be the place to go for information about calendars, results, news, and other operational documents as the organisation continues to inform players, federations and other stakeholders about its plans for the development of the sport.
One of the first documents to be made available is the 2018-2020 Snow Volleyball Rules of the Game, marking a new milestone for the sport.
The result of a collaboration between the FIVB and the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV), highlights of the new rules include three-player teams (plus a fourth player who will be the substitute player per team) and each match played to a standard best of three sets, 15 points and a two-point lead. The dimensions of the court remain unchanged, measuring 16×8 metres with a free zone of at least two metres.
Mapping out the road ahead for the sport, the Rules of the Game reflect the current state of development of snow volleyball as awareness of the discipline continues to build. Snow volleyball demonstrates the fun, passion and universality of the sport of volleyball, which is now accessible all year round from the beach to the mountains, indoor and outdoor.
The FIVB has recognised snow volleyball as one of its disciplines and encourages all affiliated volleyball governing bodies to do the same in their respective countries, contributing to the growth of the sport at the grassroots and international level. One of the National Federations which has recently recognised the discipline of Snow Volleyball is FIPAV in Italy with Vice-President Mr Adriano Bilato overseeing the development of the sport in the country.
The FIVB plans to hold several test events in the early months of 2019 with a Snow Volleyball Tour to follow on four or five continents from 2019/2020 onwards. Plans also include a showcase event at the 2020 Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne and a Snow Volleyball World Championships in 2021.
Winter resorts and/or promoters (outside the CEV territory) are invited to contact the FIVB for information about organising Snow Volleyball events in 2019/2020 and beyond.
