Shaoxing, China, December 5, 2018 – Zhu Ting recorded 23 points to power VakifBank Istanbul’s second victory in the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-17) win over Volero Le Cannet on Wednesday.

Zhu hammered 20 spikes and made three blocks for a strong outing on the second day of competition. The Chinese superstar had help from youngster Ebrar Karakurt and Kelsey Robinson who finished with 16 points and 12 points, respectively.

Ana Bjelica led all Volero Le Cannet scorers with 15 points, while captain Laura Unternahrer nicked eight markers from six attacks and two blocks.

Zhu commanded VakifBank’s offence with her towering spikes against the Volero blockers. As Zhu went on that unstoppable scoring spree, Karakurt joined in, making it more difficult for Volero to execute their defence.

Bjelica tried to keep the Volero offence going, but Zhu and Karakurt’s scoring flair sparked a bigger run that secured the match in favour of the Turkish club.

VakifBank Istanbul coach Giovanni Guidetti: “I am very happy with my team’s focus in this match. Their attention to each part of the game was very high. We played against a good team and I am glad that the team fought hard for every point.

“We have a good system, but we are not the only strong team in this competition. The Brazilian teams are very strong. Eczacibasi is also very strong, but we are VakifBank and we are not afraid of any team.”

VakifBank Istanbul player Milena Rasic: “It feels great because we played both matches with great level. We now have six points. We have one day off tomorrow, which is enough time to prepare us for the most important matches.

Volero Le Cannet captain Laura Unternahrer: “When you play against such good teams, you just need to enjoy and do your best. It’s incredible to be able to play against them. We are really grateful. We know we can do better.”
