2025 ASIAN EASTERN ZONAL WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP GETS UNDERWAY IN HONG KONG, CHINA

Home team eager to shine on familiar court

Hong Kong, China, August 26, 2025 – The 2025 Asian Eastern Zonal Women’s Volleyball Championship (2025AEZ), hosted by the Volleyball Association of Hong Kong, China, officially kicks off today and runs through August 31 at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium, with the General Technical Meeting was held Monday afternoon.

Chaired by Ms. Marina Tsui, Chairperson of the Control Committee, together with Mr. Mak Kam Chan, Executive Chairperson of the Organizing Committee, the meeting was also attended by Control Committee members and representatives from the six participating teams. Key tournament regulations were reviewed, and questions from team representatives were addressed.

In preparation for the competition, all six teams conducted court familiarization training on Monday. In Group A, hosts Hong Kong, China, will make their tournament debut on August 27 against Mongolia.

Team captain Yu Ying Chi expressed her excitement:

“I’m really looking forward to competing again in Hong Kong after a year. Our goal for this tournament is very clear – to advance to the semi-finals. I hope our team can build momentum as the matches progress.”

Head coach Kwok Kin Chuen also shared his outlook:

“We place great importance on this championship. The team has welcomed many new players and has been working hard on teamwork. Our aim is to deliver our best performance throughout the competition.”

In Group B, powerhouse China will have a rest day before facing Korea on August 27. 

Team captain Li Chenxuan, the Most Valuable Player of the previous edition, remarked:

“We are very happy to play in Hong Kong. The fans here are very enthusiastic, and the team is gradually adapting.”

The opening day on Tuesday features two matches. At 5:30 p.m., Korea will take on Macau, China in Group B. Following the opening ceremony, Chinese Taipei will face Mongolia in a Group A clash at 8:00 p.m.

Liao Yi-Jen, captain of Team Chinese Taipei and a Japanese V.League player, shared her expectations:

“After nearly half a year of training together, we hope to put on a strong performance and live up to the expectations of all the fans who support us.”

This year, the 2025AEZ has partnered with on.cc to provide live broadcasts of all matches. Fans can purchase either a one-day pass (HK$20) to watch all matches on a chosen day or a full tournament pass (HK$50) covering every match from the group stage to the final. Passes can be purchased via on.cc’s official website (URL: https://tv.on.cc/oncchkvb/index_tc.html), with live streaming IDs sent directly to the buyer’s email. Viewers can log in to the platform using their ID to enjoy the matches live.
