Korea and Chinese Taipei open with victories
Led by captain number 19 Choi Yun I (right), Korea dominated the game with their height advantage.
Hong Kong, China, August 26, 2025 – The 2025 Asian Eastern Zonal Women’s Volleyball Championship (2025AEZ), organized by the Volleyball Association of Hong Kong, China, officially got underway on Tuesday at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium.
In the opening Group B match, Korea claimed a commanding 3-0 victory over Macao, China, while Chinese Taipei also secured their first win in Group A, defeating Mongolia to make a strong start.

Korea’s performance against Macao, China was spearheaded by captain Choi Yun I, who contributed 11 points, and opposite hitter Park Hyeon Ju, who led all scorers with 15 points. Dominating with their height advantage and showcasing powerful serving, spiking, and blocking, Korea cruised to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-10, 25-6) triumph.

Between the two matches, the Organizing Committee held the official opening ceremony, graced by Ms Marina Tsui, Chairperson of the Control Committee of 2025AEZ; Mr Mak Kam Chan, Executive Chairperson of the Organizing Committee of 2025AEZ; Mr Huang Huei Ru, representative of Supporting Partner Safety Godown; together with player representatives from all six participating teams, who jointly declared the championship open.

Following the ceremony, Chinese Taipei faced Mongolia in the second match. Chinese Taipei dominated the opening set, but Mongolia fought back strongly in the second, pushing the game to a close contest. However, Chinese Taipei’s Chang Yi Chi stood out with a match-high 19 points, including six crucial points in the second set, helping the team prevail. Chinese Taipei rallied in the third set to complete a 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-22) sweep.

Earlier in the day, hosts Hong Kong, China engaged with the community through the “Team Hong Kong Volleyball Clinic” held at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium. Head coach Kwok Kin Chuen and player representatives joined local school participants, introducing them to daily training routines and sharing the values of teamwork.
“The community event was designed to inspire young people by allowing them to experience the spirit of teamwork and collective strength, while promoting volleyball culture in Hong Kong,” said Mr Mak Kam Chan, Executive Chairperson of the 2025AEZ Organizing Committee.
Home side Hong Kong, China will make their tournament debut on Wednesday (August 27) against Mongolia, while China will also begin their campaign in Group B with a highly anticipated clash against Korea.
