Australians Mariafe Artacho del Solar and Taliqua Clancy have finished in fourth place at the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Finals in Doha, Qatar.
Saturday’s quarter-final victory over Switzerland set up a mouthwatering semi-final clash against Eduarda ‘Duda’ Lisboa and Ana Patricia Ramos of Brazil.
The Australians took it to the reigning World Champions from the outset and claimed an early lead, taking the opening set 21-15.
However the Brazilians hit back sharply, forcing a tiebreak with a nine-point win in the second set.
In the end the Australian pairing fell just short, going down 11-15 in the tiebreaker.
The result sent Artacho del Solar and Clancy into the bronze medal match where they encountered the Dutch pairing of Katya Stam and Raisa Schoon.
The third seeds dropped just one match on their way to topping pool B, however found themselves in the playoff for third after a three-set loss to Sara Hughes and Kelly Chang (USA) in the semis.
Midway through the first set, nothing could separate the Australian and Dutch pairing, however Stam and Schoon eventually secured a three-point advantage to start the match on top.
The second set was more one-sided, with a 5-0 run to the Dutch creating an unassailable lead which secured the bronze 2-0 (21-18, 21-10).
In the gold medal match, wildcards Sara Hughes and Kelly Cheng claimed the title with a 2-0 (21-18, 21-16) win over Duda and Ana Patricia.
