WOMEN’S OLYMPIC QUALIFIER SET TO START ON SEPTEMBER 16 AT NINGBO, TOKYO AND LODZ

Tokyo medallists USA, Brazil and Serbia eye revival of Olympic quest

With the first qualification event for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games coming in September, the top 24 teams are looking to grab the first six Olympic spots.

The 24 teams are split into three single round-robin pools of eight teams each, where the top two teams of each pool will qualify for Paris 2024.

The battle for the Olympic spots should be exciting and intense with Tokyo gold medallists United States along with fellow podium finishers Brazil and Serbia are back on the starting line, heading each group of contenders in Ningbo, Tokyo and Lodz from September 16-24.

Reigning Olympic champions USA are in Pool C in Lodz, Poland. They will face hosts and 2023 VNL bronze medal match rivals Poland, along with other VNL quarterfinalists Italy and Germany. They will also meet strong Asian squads Thailand and Korea, as well as Colombia and Slovenia.

Tokyo silver medallists Brazil are in Pool B in Tokyo, Japan. Their toughest opponents in the pool are hosts Japan and 2023 VNL winners Türkiye but should also be on the lookout for emerging and re-emerging threats such as Belgium, Bulgaria, Puerto Rico, Peru and their South American rivals Argentina.

Reigning world champions and Tokyo bronze medallists Serbia are grouped in Pool A with 2023 VNL silver medallists China in their home turf in Ningbo. They will also see action against the Dominican Republic, the Netherlands, Canada, Czechia, Mexico and Ukraine.

Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games men’s champions France

As the host nation, France have secured its place in the men’s and women’s competitions. After the Olympic Qualification Tournament in China, Japan and Poland, the remaining five places are filled by selecting the top five not yet qualified teams in the FIVB World Ranking as of the end of the Preliminary Phase of Volleyball Nations League 2024.

To guarantee the principle of universality, these teams are selected as per the following order of priority: (1) teams from continents without qualified teams, and (2) top teams not yet qualified.
