ASIAN GAMES BEACH VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT TO TAKE PLACE IN NINGBO

Ningbo, China, September 17, 2023 – The 19th Asian Games Beach Volleyball Tournament is about to take place in Xiangshan, Ningbo from September 19 to 28, which will see, as per the entry information, a total number of 27 men’s pairs and 20 women’s duos compete for two gold medals on offer in the Games.

   

According to the event regulation and competition schedule, the men’s participating teams are divided into 8 pools, while women’s into 4 pools for a 4-day round robin phase. Top 2 teams of each men’s pool and top 4 of each women’s pool will play the single elimination round of 16 following a break day due to the the grand Opening Ceremony of the Asian Games on September 23. The quarterfinals will be held Monday followed by semifinals on Tuesday. The women’s bronze and gold medal contests will be staged on Wednesday with the men’s on Thursday.

 

In order to run the tournament smoothly, the first Control Committee meeting was held here Sunday morning at Grand House Xiangshan, the Technical Officials’ Hotel. Technical Delegate Mr Kritsada Panaseri from Thailand, extended his gratitude and welcome, on behalf of AVC President Mrs Rita Subowo, to all the Control Committee Members coming for helping organize the tournament. He shared the event regulation and venue information and also confirmed the schedule of the competition activities, especially the referee clinic, rehearsal, Technical Meeting, competition schedule, doping control, etc to make sure everyone was on the same page. 

 

Right after the meeting, the first CC & OC joint meeting was held with the attendance of all Control Committee Members and Local Organizing Committee General Secretaries and Managers. Mr Kritsada reconfirmed the schedule of the competition activities and asked for full support from every function department of the Local Organizing Committee to make a smooth and successful tournament.

Mr Luo Laixing, Director of Xiangshan County People’s Congress Standing Committee and General Secretary of Asian Games Beach Volleyball Venue Operations Group, expressed his warm welcome to all officials and promised that he and his team will spare no effort to cooperate in every single detail to contribute for an efficient and fruitful event.

Following the meetings, all Control Committee Members inspected the venue, which is adjacent to the hotel, with well-equipped 2 competition courts, 2 warm-up courts and 3 training courts. Participating teams were taking their time to have their orientation and training on the courts.

“It will be my first time to play in this venue since we have been traveling around for the World Tours, missing the previous test event here. It is such a beautiful venue at such a beautiful place. All equipment and facilities are of high quality and the sand conditions are also very good. I am so impressed of the venue,” said Xue Chen, gold medalist of 2013 FIVB World Beach Volleyball Championship, who will pair with Xia Xinyi as No. 1 seed to compete in the Asian Games Beach Volleyball Tournament.

In the afternoon, the preliminary inquiry was held in the venue while the referee clinic was organized in the hotel. The Local Organizing Committee staff were also making their final preparation and improvement for the perfect presentation of the Asian Games Beach Volleyball Tournament.

The Beach Volleyball Competition of the 19th Asian Games will kick off at 9:00 Tuesday Morning on September 19 at Xiangshan Beach Volleyball Court of Ningbo City.

Ningbo, the second largest city of Zhejiang Province, enjoys a long history of over 7,000 years with plenty of historical and religious sites. Served as one of the co-host cities for the 19th Asian Games, Ningbo will host two events of beach volleyball and sailing in its coastal Xiangshan County. The 19th Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou, capital city of Zhejiang from September 23 to October 8, 2023.
