Manila, Philippines, May 28, 2024 – Chinese Taipei captured a 3-0 victory (27-25, 25-10, 25-10) against Singapore to close off their campaign in the 2024 AVC Challenge Cup for Women on Tuesday afternoon at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in the Philippines’ capital city.
The bronze medalists in the 2023 edition in Surabaya, Indonesia have settled for their best possible finish in 9th place in the Manila hosting.
Hsu Fang-Min led all scorers on the board, posting 13 points purely on attack. Weng Tzu-Yun supported in the victory, likewise in double figures, with 11 points.
“We are very happy to take this victory in today’s match. We surely enjoyed our stay here in the Philippines and we want to thank all those who have shown their support to our team,” she said.
The first set marked a close contest, with Chinese Taipei running their system, while Singapore were able to play along accordingly. Singaporean hitters Lai Tzak Hshin and Siow Yi Yin showed their skills unleashing from the wings.
The Chinese Taipei side, learning from the first set, worked quickly to establish their rhythm. They knew they could play much quicker, handling their transition plays accordingly with sound decisions. Their frontline also posted better block formation and timing, to establish their claim for victory, building the momentum for a straight-sets match.
Chinese Taipei dominated their opponents in all scoring fronts, delivering 46 attacks, 8 blocks and 4 service winners.
