Manila, Philippines, May 28, 2024 – Kazakhstan claimed the second slot for the finale of the 2024 AVC Challenge Cup for Women after winning in straight sets 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-14) against home team Philippines in Tuesday’s main event at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
Captain Sana Anarkulova led all scorers in the field, posting 19 points. Svetlana Nikolaheva added 11 more markers for the debuting team in the competition. Arah Panique scored 14 points in Tuesday evening’s defeat.
The Kazakh side initiated their game plan to capitalize upon their tall line-up. They spotted some weak points in their opponents’ backcourt as Margarita Belchenko and Anarkulova unleashed from the wings. They also imposed a strong presence at the net, cancelling their opponents’ attempts.
Philippines’ coach Jorge Edson Souza De Brito initiated a change and brought in Panique to fortify the frontline. She helped spark a scoring run, converting in both attack and block.
Kazakhstan kept composure and took the narrow edge for the first set win.
The CAVA side amplified their system with powerful serves. They scored on service winners and they mostly gave difficulty to the opponents’ passing unit.
The Philippines tried to inch closer, but lost crucial breaks in the second set with their errors on serve and attack.
By the third set, Kazakhstan mounted a huge advantage in both scorecard and morale. They continued to dominate the match with a commendable performance in all fronts. They posted 43 attack points, 8 blocks and 4 service winners.
Kazakhstan will face defending champions Vietnam in the title match on Wednesday at 19:00 Manila time.
