Host nation Jordan also hails a team on the podium

Lebanon’s Cheikho Mirna & Hamzeh Mirvat and Oman’s Mazin Alhashmi & Hood Al Jalaboubi repeated their success from last week’s West Asian Beach Volleyball Championships by winning the Arab Beach Volleyball Championships for women and for men, respectively, held at the same venue in Amman. They both overcame compatriot teams in their finals. The bronze medals went to duos from Jordan for women and Lebanon for men.
Cheikho & Hamzeh cruised through the women’s tournament without dropping a single set in seven matches played. On Monday, the 10th-seeded Lebanese duo produced a 2-0 (21-10, 21-14) semifinal win over Farah Alatout & Nancy Ayyash of Jordan, before celebrating a 2-0 (21-18, 21-15) victory over third-seeded Lebanese compatriots Nour Hamze & Lara Al Nahi in the gold medal match.
In their semifinal, Nour & Lara had achieved a 2-0 (21-9, 21-17) win over another Jordanian pair, top-seeded Rahaf Haimour & Ragad Haimur, to secure their spot on the podium.
In an all-Jordanian third-place match, Alatout & Ayyash recovered with a 2-0 (21-19, 21-13) upset of Haimour & Haimur to get the bronze.
In a remake of last week’s men’s West Asian Beach Volleyball Championship final, fourth-seeded Mazin & Hood achieved a hard-fought 2-1 (21-17, 18-21, 15-11) victory over fellow Omanis Haitham Alshereiqi & Ahmed Alhousni, seeded second. And that was the first time they lost a set throughout the tournament, following a streak of another six wins in straight sets, crowned by a 2-0 (21-14, 21-9) sweep of their semifinal against Lebanon’s Paul Bou Akl & Charbel Khoueiry.
Haitham & Ahmed reached the final unbeaten in seven consecutive matches. In their semifinal, they celebrated a 2-0 (21-13, 21-18) upset of top-seeded Abdallah Ibrahim Nassim & Mohamed Ihab Zaki of Qatar. Paul & Charbel also upset the Qatari pair with a 2-1 (21-15, 18-21, 15-5) victory in the bronze medal match.
The awarding ceremony was headlined by Jordan Volleyball Federation President HRH Princess Ayah bint Faisal. 10 women’s and 11 men’s teams, representing Bahrain, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and hosts Jordan, took part in the Arab Beach Volleyball Championships.
