ASIAN INTERNATIONAL REFEREE CANDIDATE COURSE UNDERWAY IN NAKHON PATHOM

Bangkok, Thailand, June 5, 2024 – The Asian International Referee Candidate Course (AIRCC), organized by Asian Volleyball Confederation in close collaboration with Thailand Volleyball Association, is currently taking place between June 5 and 11 in Nakhon Pathom Municipality Gymnasium in Nakhon Pathom, a province that is really close to Bangkok with just 56 kilometers in distance.

 

The one-week course is designed to train and test active candidates wishing to join the international referee community and develop capabilities to their highest potential in terms of quality and quantity. In addition, it is expected that those undergoing this course can grow new generation of Asian referees.

To catch up with latest technology and new knowledge content necessary for referees bearing responsibility in the near future, the AVC Referees Committee had revamped content strategy for maximum impact including E-Scoresheet and Video Challenge System to help in performing duties effectively and efficiently.

A total of 19 candidates consisting of 12 men and seven women from eight countries – Hong Kong China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Chinese Taipei and Thailand – are attending the AIRCC in Nakhon Pathom, with AVC Referees Committee Chairman Mr Songsak Chareonpong, himself Member of the FIVB Rules of the Game and Refereeing Commission, conducting the course in both theoretical and practical phases as Course Director.

Mr Somporn Chaibangyang, President of Thailand Volleyball Association (TVA) and Southeast Asia Volleyball Association (SAVA), and Lt Col Dr Sinthop Kaewphichit, President of Nakhon Pathom Sports Association, jointly presided over the inauguration ceremony of the course at the Conference Room inside the Nakhon Pathom Municipality Gymnasium on Wednesday and delivered welcome speech to all participants.

Also in attendance were AVC Executive Director Mr Shanrit Wongprasert, Mr Supot Toompracha, Vice President of Municipal Mueng Nakhon Pathom, TVA Deputy Secretary General Mr Supoj Chaibangyang and Mr Issara Riddhisinha, Manager of FIVB Development Center in Thailand. 

Through the course, all candidates stand a chance of not only learning volleyball rules and refereeing theories, but also gaining valuable experience and confidence in making right decisions and effective management of crucial matches.

The course is well-organized and coinciding with the 22nd “Princess Cup” Est Cola Southeast Asian Women’s U18 Volleyball Championship at the gymnasium between June 8 and 13, 2024 and as part of the practical phase, each candidate will obtain a chance to perform specific functions such as First Referee, Second Referee, Challenge Referee, Scorer, Assistant Scorer and Line Judge during the championship.

During the inauguration ceremony, TVA President Mr Somporn presented a bag as souvenir to Lt Col Dr Sinthop.
