The distinguished guests and 24 volleyball coaches from 7 countries and regions take a group photo together.
Hong Kong, China, July 8, 2024 – Volleyball Association of Hong Kong, China is hosting the “FIVB Volleyball Coaches Course Level 1” at Hong Kong Baptist University Wai Hang Sports Centre for five consecutive days (July 8-12). This is the first time since 1996 that FIVB Coaches Course is being held in Hong Kong.
There are 24 volleyball coaches from 7 countries and regions including China, Hong Kong China, Macau China, Chinese Taipei, the United Kingdom, the Philippines and Singapore participating. The course is led by our very own Mr Mak Tsz-Shun, Hong Kong’s first FIVB Instructor.
The opening ceremony was held on the first day of the course, with distinguished guests including Mr. Wong Po Kee, MH, Honorary Deputy Secretary General of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China; Mr Ng Sau Kei, Wilfred, GBS, JP, President of Volleyball Association of Hong Kong, China; Mrs. Shek Tsui Wai Fun, Marina, Director of Volleyball Association of Hong Kong, China; Mr Yip Po Lam, Chairperson of Coaching Commission of Volleyball Association of Hong Kong, China; Mr Chau Kwok Kit, Chairperson of Training and Development Commission of Volleyball Association of Hong Kong, China; and Mr. Mac Mak and Mr. Gordon Wong, Sales Executive of the sponsor MT Sportswear Limited. Hong Kong has previously hosted 3 FIVB Coaches Courses include FIVB Coaches Course Level 1 in 1990 and 1996, and FIVB Coaches Course Level 2 in 1992.

FIVB Coaches Course Level 1 is led by Mr. Mak Tsz-Shun, Hong Kong’s first FIVB Instructor. The course includes both theoretical and practical lessons, covering basic technical skills, team formations and systems, offensive and defensive tactics, lead up games (volleyball for beginners), sports psychology and basic physical conditioning etc. Mr. Mak Tsz-Shun, was appointed as FIVB Instructor in 2021. He is also an FIVB Level 3 Volleyball Coach; Instructor of local coaches course level 1 and 2 as well as “Introductory Sports Coaching Course”.
Mrs. Shek Tsui Wai Fun, Marina, Director of Volleyball Association of Hong Kong, China; Mr. Yip Po Lam, Chairperson of Coaching Commission of Volleyball Association of Hong Kong, China; and Mr. CHAU Kwok Kit, Chairperson of Training and Development Commission of Volleyball Association of Hong Kong, China, presented a banner to Mr. Mac Mak and Mr. Gordon Wong, Sales Executive of the sponsor MT Sportswear Limited, to thank them for sponsoring the course apparel
He serves as Chairperson of Training and Development Commission and member of Coaching Commission of Volleyball Association of Hong Kong, China. Mr Mak has an impressive track record, having served as the head coach of the Universiade Games Men’s Volleyball Team in 2017 and 2019, as well as the Hong Kong Women’s Youth Volleyball Team from 2012 to 2013 and 2016 to 2018. Under his guidance, the Youth Women’s Team achieved a historic 6th place finish at the 2017 Asian Women’s U18 Volleyball Championship.
