16 REFEREES NOW READY TO BE IN THE SPOTLIGHT AT 15TH ASIAN MEN’S U18 CHAMPIONSHIP

Manama, Bahrain, July 27, 2024 – Sixteen accompanying referees will participate in officiating daily eight matches of the 15th Asian Men’s U18 Volleyball Championship, which will be held in two competition halls, Isa Sport City Hall B and Hall C, under the guidance of Referee Delegate Mr Ibrahim Mohd Al-Naama from Qatar and Referee Sub-Committee Members Dr Amur Altuqi from Oman, Mohammad Shahmiri from Iran, and Mr Jirachai Kasemsook from Thailand.

The Refereeing Committee of the championship reviewed the protocol that will be applied to the competitions, as well as the rules of the game and the developments that have occurred recently. This came during the general meeting of the referees that was held Saturday morning at the “SwessBel” Hotel, chaired by Referee Delegate Mr Ibrahim Al-Naama, who stressed with his fellow members of the Committee the necessity of applying the rules of the game and the spirit of the law, in line with this age group.

On Saturday morning, the Control Committee, headed by Mr Yermek Syrlybayev from Kazakhstan, checked the readiness of all Committee Members working on the continental event through a rehearsal that was implemented at Hall B inside the Isa sport City, which simulates real competitions by holding a demonstration match for this youth category, and ensuring that all requirements and logistical preparations are met before the official start of this topflight championship on Sunday.

The demonstration included implementing the protocol, ensuring the integrity of electronic registration and the work of internal broadcasters, the practical application of the statistics and the statistical program. It also covered managing the referees accompanying the events and linking them to electronic registration and line judges, as only two line judges will be officiating in each match, in addition to checking the preparations of the local referees committee and the smoothness of the roles and responsibilities they will perform. 

The rehearsal was held to the satisfaction of Control Committee and the Executive Committee of the championship, as it was attended by the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, His Excellency Sheikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa.

During the Referee Clinic, all referees also stood chances to work closely with the Video Challenge. All the participating teams will take the benefit of the new-technology Video Challenge System to assist the referees in the decision-making process to make the game absolutely fair to the athletes’ actions, Video Challenge will allow for one of the following situations

a) Ball in/out – for side and end lines

b) Block Touch – contact with the ball by the player (i.e. the blocker

c) Net Fault – contact with the net between the antennae by the player in the action of playing the ball

d) Antenna Touch – contact with the antenna by the player or by the ball

e) Foot Fault – a) contact of the server with the playing court (end line included) or the lateral free zone outside the service zone, b) faulty contact of a player with the 3-meter attack line, c) the complete crossing of the center line by the player’s foot or feet.
