FIVB VOLLEYBALL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2025: FUELLED BY FIVB VOLLEYBALL EMPOWERMENT

The Volleyball Empowerment programme has provided support to 36 teams competing across both the men’s and women’s competitions

  • With 17 men’s and 19 women’s teams at the 2025 World Championships supported by the Volleyball Empowerment, fans can look forward to a competitive, diverse and high-level competition
  • Through the programme, there has been a total investment of 8.5 million USD to the National Federations’ volleyball programmes
  • 2025 will see the World Championship travel for the first time ever to the Philippines (for the men’s edition) and Thailand (for women’s)

The countdown has begun for the FIVB Men’s and Women’s Volleyball World Championships 2025, which promise to be action-packed, jaw-dropping and electric competitions between the world’s top volleyball talent. 

With the expansion of the tournament to 32 teams per gender, the impact of the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment and Development programmes will be clearer than ever. A significant 36 out of a total of 64 teams competing at the World Championships are supported by Volleyball Empowerment through their National Federations, in a total investment of 8.5 million USD to the volleyball programmes.

2025 will see the World Championship travel for the first time ever to the Philippines (for the men’s edition) and Thailand (for women’s). Both nations are renowned for their love for volleyball, their fantastic fan bases, and their proven success in hosting world-class volleyball events.

In addition to being a celebration of volleyball, these Championships will also demonstrate the transformative impact of the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment programme. The initiative, designed to advance volleyball globally by aiding athletes and teams to excel, has played a key role in providing support to, and shaping the volleyball path for several teams competing in the prestigious competition. Since 2017, the FIVB has invested a total of over 39 million USD into the Volleyball Empowerment and Development programmes in 201 countries, with over 30 million USD allocated to coaching support projects.

Of the 32 teams competing in the Men’s World Championship, 17 have been beneficiaries of FIVB Volleyball Empowerment. The teams supported include:

The Philippines (Host Country), Qatar, Egypt, Libya, Colombia, Chile, Cuba, Canada, Slovenia, Germany, The Netherlands, Ukraine, Belgium, Finland, Tunisia, Romania and Korea.

In the Women’s Volleyball World Championship, 19 of the 32 teams competing have received support from Volleyball Empowerment. This support has allowed these teams to strengthen their performance on the international stage, creating a highly competitive and exciting field for 2025. The teams supported include:

Thailand (Host Country), Vietnam, Kenya, Egypt, Cameroon, Argentina, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Mexico, The Netherlands, Canada, Germany, Czechia, Ukraine, France, Bulgaria, Sweden, Slovenia and the Slovak Republic.

FIVB Volleyball Empowerment has undoubtedly had a transformative impact on the global volleyball landscape, ensuring that nations across all continents can develop their local volleyball talent and compete at the highest level.

With over half of participating teams at the 2025 World Championships benefitting from this initiative, fans can look forward to a more competitive, diverse and high-level competition than ever before!
