Malé, Maldives, November 4, 2024 – In an exhilarating conclusion of the Milo Men’s VAM Cup 2024, Club HDC triumphed over Dhivehi Sifainge Club (DSC) in a gripping five-set final showdown on Monday to eventually capture the title.
Tournament Overview
The competition began with two groups battling through the initial stages. Group A featured Blues for Volleyball (BVF), City Sports Club (CSC), Maldives Police Club (PLC), and Sports Club City (SCC). Group B consisted of Club Half Line Linkage (CHL), Dhivehi Sifainge Club (DSC), and Club HDC (HDC).
After a series of intense matches, Group A was led by Sports Club City and Maldives Police Club, while Group B saw Dhivehi Sifainge Club and Club HDC advance to the semifinals.
Semifinals
The semifinals were equally intense, with three matches leading up to the grand finale:
In the first semifinal Maldives Police Club (PLC) faced off against Club HDC (HDC). In a fierce match, HDC emerged victorious, stepping closer to making the cut for the final.
The second semifinal clash, Dhivehi Sifainge Club (DSC) went up against Sports Club City (SCC). DSC came out on top to win the match and advance to the showdown.
The third semifinal match or the final semifinal pitted the losing team from second semifinals (SCC) against the winners of the first semifinals (HDC). However, SCC forfeited the match, allowing HDC to proceed to the finals.
The Final Showdown
In an unforgettable display of skill and determination, Club HDC and Dhivehi Sifainge Club battled fiercely over five sets which saw the final scores end 20-25, 31-29, 25-20, 17-25, 15-13 in HDC’s favor.
Ismail Sajid (No.9) from Club HDC, who emerged as the top scorer at the recent CAVA Men’s Championship, delivered an outstanding performance and was awarded the Player of the Match title.
The awards were presented by the Minister of Transport & Civil Aviation, Hon. Mohamed Ameen, who served as the chief guest. The tournament concluded with both individual and team accolades, honoring the exceptional talents showcased throughout the Milo VAM Cup 2024.
