Through collaborations with the FIVB Volleyball Foundation and its Qatari partners, the FIVB aims to promote women’s empowerment in sport
The FIVB is proud to announce a week of inspiring volleyball events and initiatives in Qatar in partnership with the FIVB Volleyball Foundation, IOC Olympic Solidarity, Qatar Foundation, Qatar Volleyball Association (QVA) and the Qatar Olympic Committee. The programme of events will take place from 2-3 December and includes several initiatives and competitions around the theme of advancing volleyball and empowering women in sport, alongside the hosting of the West Asian Volleyball Association (WAVA) U20 Women’s Beach Volleyball Championship.
2024 WAVA U20 Women’s Beach Volleyball Championship
In pursuit of developing and strengthening the Global Volleyball Movement, the FIVB and IOC are organising the 2024 WAVA U20 Women’s Beach Volleyball Championship as part of the IOC Youth Athlete Development Programme. From 2-3 December, athletes from the following Western Asian countries will be participating at the Al Gharafa Beach Complex – Qatar, Jordan, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and Kuwait.
This event highlights the region’s growing passion for beach volleyball and provides an invaluable platform for young female athletes to compete on the international stage.
‘Women in Sports: Creating Pathways’ Seminar
On 2 December 2024, the Education City Stadium will host the ‘Women in Sports: Creating Pathways’ seminar. Organised in collaboration with Qatar Foundation, QVA, and the FIVB, it will feature international administrators, Olympians and Olympic medallists, who will come together to discuss important topics surrounding women’s roles in sports. The seminar will include insightful panels, focusing on creating pathways for women to excel in both athletics and sports administration.
Mass Participation Volleyball Activation
Furthermore, the FIVB Volleyball Foundation, in collaboration with the QVA, Qatar Foundation and WAVA will host more than 100 children at the Al Gharafa Beach Complex on 3 December 2024. This two-hour activation will provide the children with a unique opportunity to engage in fun and inspiring volleyball activities. Following this, the participants will have the chance to catch all the action of the WAVA U20 Women’s Beach Volleyball Championship.
Throughout the week, participants will have the opportunity to meet a number of the sport’s most iconic figures, including Olympians and Volleyball Foundation ambassadors Louise Bawden, Doaa Elghobashy, Elizaveta Bracht, Ahmed Tijan, and Cherif Younousse.
These events will serve as a prelude to the Beach Pro Tour Finals, set to take place in Doha from 4 to 7 December 2024. The Finals bring together the world’s best beach volleyball teams, all vying to close the Olympic year out on the podium.
