Bangkok, Thailand, March 9, 2025 – The newly-appointed AVC Medical Committee met in a hybrid format on Sunday to review the past year’s medical activities and discuss key matters including responsibilities of Medical Delegates at Asian competitions as well as the cooperation and collaboration with sports organizations such as International Testing Agency (ITA).
AVC MC Chairman Dr Oh Jae-Keun from Korea chaired the Sunday’s meeting, with Secretary Dr Ead Lorprayoon and Honorary Member Dr Rueangsak Siriphol, both of them from Thailand, attending on site at the AVC Headquarters in Bangkok.

The Committee was also honored by the presence of AVC President Mr Ramon Suzara, accompanied by AVC Secretary General Mr Hugh Graham, in the meeting.

Dr Jogi Yoshizawa from Japan and Dr Daisuke Araki, another Honorary Member, joined the meeting on Zoom, while Dr Gholamreza Norouzi from Iran and Dr Mohamed Habeeb from Maldives were unable to attend the meeting with some unknown reasons.

Following the Roll Call and self introduction of each member, AVC President Mr Suzara delivered his welcome address to all participants.
“It is with great pleasure to welcome all of you to this important meeting of the AVC Medical Committee. This is the first meeting following the recent election and I would like to extend a warm welcome to new members and express my appreciation to all of you for dedicating your time and expertise to AVC. The Medical Committee plays a crucial role in safeguarding the health and wellbeing of athletes, players, coaches. Your effort in medical governance and the doping matters and athletes’ care are kind of reflecting the continued success of AVC events. I encourage you to engage more in discussion, share insights and work collaboratively to stand with the medical process and programs, especially with the FIVB Medical Commission. Moving forward, AVC committed to enhance medical standard for competitions and showing possible the best support for athletes,” AVC President Mr Ramon Suzara was quoted as saying in his speech.

Another important issue concerning the impact of gender inequality on women’s team in AVC competitions was also raised the AVC President for consideration.

The meeting later approved the Agenda and acknowledged the Minutes of 2024 AVC MC Meeting.

After that, Committee Chairman Dr Oh asked Dr Rueangsak to inform the meeting about decisions of the 47th, 48th, 49th AVC Board of Administration Meeting and the 25th AVC General Assembly.
“At the 47th AVC Board of Administration Meeting, AVC MC proposed the AVC BA to appoint the Medical Delegate to supervise the anti-doping tests in AVC events, but the BA approved the proposal only if the budget was available. At the 48th and 49th AVC Board of Administration Meetings, no matters related to the Medical Committee. At the 25th AVC General Assembly, the importance of Medical Delegate of the event was stressed to the Assembly by AVC MC Chairman, while Mr Ramon Suzara was elected as the AVC President for 2024-2028 term,” Dr Rueangsak explained.

“Eight championships were organized in 2024 but the Medical Delegate was nominated only in 3 championships including the 22nd Asian Men’s U20 Championship in Surabaya, Indonesia from July 23 to 30, the Asian Men’s Club Championship in Yazd, Iran from September 8 to 15 and the Asian Women’s Club Championship in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand between September 22 and 29. No Medical Delegate was appointed for beach volleyball events,” he continued.
In terms of the Medical and Anti-Doping Matters in 2024 AVC events, Dr Rueangsak indicated that there were no serious medical matters, while no anti-doping tests and referee’s alcohol tests were conducted due to COVID-19 Precautions.

After that, Dr Daisuke Araki reported on the FIVB Medical Commission on February 12, 2025, which focussed on the role and responsibility of the Medical Delegates and their dedication to ensure a fair and supportive environment for all.
AVC President Mr Suzara stated that the underage events are also important, suggesting that Medical Delegate be provided for those events to educate young players and coaches. He added that it should be proposed that the Medical Delegate be nominated for all AVC competitions including beach volleyball events regardless of the budget. Additionally, he also recommended that the AVC Medical Committee propose the first “Mental Coach Seminar”, with some coaches and key players invited to participate.
Lastly, the AVC President asked the AVC Medical Committee to discuss the cooperation with OCA in partnership with the International Testing Agency (ITA) for better understanding in order that they can handle conflict resolution in the future workplace including the Asian Youth Games coming October in Bahrain and the next year’s Asian Games in Nagoya in particular.
