FIVB-PNVF REFEREES’ REFRESHER COURSE NOW UNDERWAY IN PHILIPPINES

Manila, Philippines, March 19, 2025 – President of Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) and Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) Mr Ramon Suzara presided over the Wednesday’s opening ceremony of the 2025 FIVB-PNVF Referees’ Refresher Course at Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.

Presently underway between March 19 and 23, the course is held in line with the PNVF’s preparatory work in hosting the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship from September 12 to 28. To make it clear and confirm that the Philippines has now reached full swing operations for the highly-anticipated competition, Mr Guillermo Paredes from Argentina, President of FIVB Rules of the Game and Refereeing Commission, was cordially invited as Course Director and Primary Resource Speaker to facilitate the intensive five-day course to all participants.

The course inauguration took place on Wednesday, March 19, with Mr Suzara, himself FIVB Executive Vice President, presiding. Also in attendance in the ceremony were PNVF Secretary General Mr Jose Donaldo Caringal, PNVF Chairman Dr Arnel Hajan, Mr Yul  Castillo Benosa, Chairman of the PNVF Referee & Rules of the Game. 

In the Opening Ceremony, AVC and PNVF President Mr Suzara delivered a welcome address to all participants, informing them of the importance of this crucial course, urging them to do their best in the course, theoretically and practically and wishing them a success. He also presented a souvenir to Course Director Mr Guillermo Paredes.

Course Instructor Mr Benosa and Course Director Mr Paredes, while giving brief messages to all participants, also expressed their gratitude to FIVB and PNVF for giving them this great opportunity to conduct the course.

The course emphasizes the Rules of the Game, Modern Volleyball Use of Technology, FIVB Video Challenge Regulations, FOP/Court Inspection and Set-up, FIVB Match Protocols and Practical Refereeing Applications with demonstration teams (seven matches) and Match Referees’ Evaluation.

During the Course, Mr Paredes and Mr Benosa also played a central role in managing and making good discussions happen, with the Rule of the Games (FIVB Rules 2025-2028) and New Rule Modification (FIVB Rules 2025-28) being raised for further consideration and discussion.

The course will continue until Sunday, March 23 when the Closing Ceremony will be held, with AVC and PNVF President Mr Ramon Suzara once again expected to preside over the closing as well as present Certificate of Recognition to the Resource Speaker and certificates to all participants.
