VIETNAM AND BAHRAIN CONFIRMED TO HOST RESPECTIVE AVC WOMEN’S AND MEN’S NATIONS CUP IN JUNE

Bangkok, Thailand, April 14, 2025 – Hanoi, Vietnam and Manama, Bahrain have been confirmed as host cities for the respective AVC Women’s Nations Cup 2025 from June 7 to 14 and the AVC Men’s Nations Cup 2025 between June 17 and 24, the qualification for the top-tier Asian Volleyball Championships in 2026

As Vietnam and Bahrain received the AVC’s green light to organise the aforementioned tournaments, the continent’s governing body on April 14 sent invitation and relevant details including entry form, competition format and regulations to its National Federation Members in order that interested federations can complete and submit the National Entry Form to AVC by the deadline on April 30, 2025.

Previously known as the AVC Challenge Cup, which has from 2023 to 2024 reformed from being held biennially to annually, the AVC Nations Cup will be held by AVC in partnership with Volleyball World to qualify the champions in each gender for the next year’s Asian Volleyball Championships, the regional qualification pathway for two future major competitions, with the eventual winners of the Asian Men’s and Women’s Championships directly qualifying for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, USA, and the top three teams making the cut for the 2027 FIVB World Championships.

As the idea behind rebranding is to create a different identity for the tournament, an eye-catching competition logo that absolutely reflects the AVC’s commitment to strive for something better and greater will soon be released to grow brand awareness, reshape the public perception of the tournament and re-engage a stagnant social media audience and passionate volleyball fans.

According to AVC, the competition format and regulations of the AVC Nations Cup will follow the same principles as last year. As AVC Nations Cup is open only to teams that are not participating in the respective VNL (Volleyball Nations League), the number of participating teams is limited to a maximum of 12 teams per gender.

In the event that more than 12 teams submit the Entry Form, the qualification pathway for AVC Men’s Nations Cup and AVC Women’s Nations Cup will be applied as follows:

  1. Host team
  2. Top 6 teams from the previous edition of the AVC Challenge Cup
  3. 5 remaining spots will be filled by the highest-ranked teams in the FIVB World Ranking.

However, in case a team does not have world ranking points, the final decision will be made by AVC in consultation with Volleyball World and the host country.

In addition, it is necessarily required that each participating team submit the proposed names of three (3) accompanying referees for the tournament. All nominated referees must hold International Referee status. For the AVC Women’s Nations Cup, AVC has requested that the first name on the submitted list be a female referee.
