Pasig City, Philippines, April 20, 2025 – Home team Creamline Cool Smashers won in straight sets, 3-0 (29-27, 25-20, 25-19) against Jordan’s Al Naser Club in Pool A of the 1st AVC Women’s Volleyball Champions League.
The crowd at the PhilSports Arena marvelled at the efforts of Creamline Cool Smashers, as they navigated along the twists and turns of the match.
“We learned to respect the game no matter what. Even if they are a younger team, we have to give it our all. We had to be patient today in just about everything. We have three imports in the team. It was a good fight and we’re grateful for today’s win,” said captain Alyssa Valdez, who scored a match-high of 10 points.
Erika Staunton led the winning team with 17 points. Ilisandra Klein led all scorers on the board, posting 19 points in the Jordan club’s defeat on Sunday afternoon.
Al Naser Club established an early lead, unleashing a couple of aces from the service line. Klein went on a scoring mission, posting 11 points in the opening set. She struck from the flank, but also connected from the backrow.
Creamline Cool Smashers slowly inched their way back into the set, playing each point with much patience as they equalized with 19-19 on the scoreboard. Captain Valdez delivered in clutch plays, with Anastasya Kudrashyova supporting in attack. The opening set went into extended play, with the home team edging out their opponents.
The Philippine side carried over a good measure of momentum into the second set. Staunton posted a good mix of attacks, blocks and service winners. Anastassiya Kolomoyets also helped much in the middle. Kudrashyova helped close out the second set, as she launched from both flanks.
With their main hitter Klein being marked and monitored, the Jordan side needed more options and found Isabela Paquiardi proving much needed support. However, variety and unpredictability in the offense looked limiting, with errors causing additional damage to their stake.
Meanwhile, Creamline Cool Smashers setter Kyle Negrito orchestrated the offense upon different hitters, showing the team’s merit in cohesion and communication. She kept the opponents guessing her next plays, often drawing the opponents’ blockers away from her hitters. To complete their winning performance, the Philippine club served aggressively and unleashed several aces in the third set.
Creamline Cool Smashers will play Kazakhstan’s Zhetyssu VC on Monday’s main event at 19:00. Al Naser Club will likewise face the Kazakh club on Tuesday at 13:00. All times local.
