Pasig City, Philippines, April 21, 2025 – Kazakhstan’s Zhetysu VC opened their bid in the 1st AVC Women’s Volleyball Champions League with a 3-0 win (25-16, 25-17, 25-17) against the Philippines’ Creamline Cool Smashers on Monday evening at the PhilSports Arena.
Karyna Denysova, who scored 12 points in the victory, remarked on the arena’s atmosphere. “This is a good experience for us with such exciting matches. The spectators here are amazing and they are even cheering for the opponents!” she said.
In their debut in Pool A of the competition, Zhetysu VC looked formidable, showing their prowess in attack and block formation. With their height advantage on clear display, their frontline was able to connect with 5 stuff blocks in the first set.
Creamline Cool Smashers kept composed, trying to find the best ways to outplay the tall defenders. They tried to set up captain Alyssa Valdez and Erika Staunton on attack, which converted into several successful plays, only to eventually suffer from errors in attack and reception.
The home team signaled some player changes, bringing in Bernadeth Pons and Jessica Margaret Galanza into the attacking and passing unit.
Zhetysu VC had other plans in mind, as they continued to capitalize on their tall attackers. Tatyana Nikitina and Denysova looked prolific from the flanks, as they helped power a huge advantage by the end of the second set.
The Kazakh club continued to play in form, making good use of their momentum.
The Philippine club tried to find solutions to their predicament, sticking it out with their main hitters, while bringing in fresh legs at the middle. They were unable to surmount the huge lead right in front of them.
Denysova added: “We want to move forward and see what our strength is in this championship. We want to try and do our best to see the best result we can get.”
Zhetysu VC will face Jordan’s Al Naser Club on Tuesday at 13:00 Philippine time. Creamlime Cool Smashers split their matches in Pool A and now await their match-up in the quarterfinal phase.
