MUHARRAQ CLUB SECURE HARD-FOUGHT 3-1 VICTORY OVER SPORT TRAINING CENTER3 AT AVC MEN’S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Osaka, Japan, May 12, 2025 – Bahrain’s Muharraq Club bounced back from an opening-day defeat to claim a well-earned 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-23, 25-22) win over Vietnam’s Sport Training Center3 in Pool D action at the inaugural AVC Men’s Champions League on Monday at Panasonic Arena.

Swedish opposite Jacob Link led all scorers with an impressive 26-point performance, including 22 kills, three blocks, and one ace. Dutch outside hitter Maarten Van Garderen added 16 points, while Polish star Alexandre Ferreira and local talent Aldwairi Mohamed also played key roles in Muharraq’s offense. For Sport Training Center3, Nguyen Ngoc Thuan recorded 15 points – all from attacks – and Nguyen Van Quoc Duy contributed 12 points.

“From yesterday’s match to today, we’ve had tough games,” Link said after the win. “The Vietnamese team played fast with a lot of combinations. It’s amazing to play here, and I want to thank everyone who supports me and our team.”

Both teams came out strong in the opening set, with Link finding his rhythm early for Muharraq. The Bahraini side displayed sharp offensive execution, while Sport Training Center3 showcased solid defense and teamwork, led by the dynamic duo of Nguyen Ngoc Thuan and Nguyen Van Quoc Duy. Despite their efforts, Muharraq held firm, with Ferreira and Aldwairi reinforcing the attack to claim the set.

Sport Training Center3 responded well in the second set, tightening their block and capitalizing on Muharraq’s unforced errors. Tran Duy Tuyen and Nguyen Van Quoc Duy were particularly effective in attack, as the Vietnamese side outpaced their opponents to level the match at one set apiece.

In the third set, Sport Training Center3 continued to pressure Muharraq with strong blocking and sharp attacks from Truong The Khai and Duong Van Tien. However, Link’s explosive hitting proved difficult to contain. Despite a late surge by the Vietnamese team, Muharraq held their nerve in the closing points to edge the set 25-23.

The Bahraini team carried their momentum into the fourth set, racing to an early lead through the efforts of Link and Van Garderen. While Sport Training Center3 battled back with strong plays from Pham Quoc Du and Nguyen Ngoc Thuan, a critical service error in the closing stages dashed their hopes of a comeback. Muharraq closed out the set and match to claim their first win of the tournament.

With this victory, Muharraq Club remain in contention for a place in the quarterfinals. Their fate now hinges on the outcome of the final Pool D clash between Qatar’s Al-Rayyan Sports Club and Sport Training Center3, scheduled for Tuesday at 12:35 local time.
