OBITUARY
Bangkok, Thailand, May 26, 2025 – The Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) and the entire Asian Volleyball Family are deeply saddened by the passing of Mr Ronald Omoa, Secretary General of the Papua New Guinea Volleyball Association (PNGVA), who devoted much of his life to the growth and development of volleyball, particularly within the Oceania Zone.
On Monday at 3:00pm PNG time, PNGVA President Mr Edward Aisi shared the heartbreaking news on social media, informing friends, colleagues, and the broader volleyball community across Oceania and Asia that Mr Omoa had passed away at the age of 48 due to a mild stroke. In addition to serving as Secretary General, Mr Omoa also held the position of Vice President of the Oceania Zonal Volleyball Association (OZVA).
Mr Omoa’s service to volleyball spanned 16 dedicated years, including four years under President Alu, four years under President Kila Dick, and six years under current President Edward Aisi, with his term set to conclude in 2028.
He most recently participated in the 25th AVC Elective General Assembly held in Bangkok in 2024, alongside the PNGVA President Mr Aisi. During the event, they had the honor of meeting and taking photographs with Dr Ary Graca, the FIVB President at that time but now President of the Volleyball Foundation and FIVB Honorary Life President, and Mr Ramon Suzara, who was later elected the AVC President during the Assembly.
Beyond volleyball, Mr Omoa was a talented graphic designer and artist whose creative work significantly contributed to PNGVA’s branding and outreach. He was a devoted husband to his wife Vegga and a loving father to their three sons. Known for his honesty, work ethic, and kind heart, Ronald was admired by all who knew him and had no known enemies, a rare testament to his character.
His passing leaves a profound void in the Papua New Guinea volleyball community and poses a great challenge to continuing the growth and progress he championed. He will be deeply missed by the PNGVA family, friends, and colleagues across the Oceania region.
The AVC and the Asian Volleyball Family extend their heartfelt condolences to Mr Omoa’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
Those who wish to offer support or contribute in kind may contact PNGVA President Mr Edward Aisi. Further information, including PNGVA’s official account for assistance, will be shared in due course.
